PPS Climate Crisis Response Policy

Thanks to everyone who contacted Portland Public Schools Policy Committee members supporting a strong Climate Crisis Response Policy. The set of strategies to decarbonize the school system, build community resilience, and provide meaningful education was in jeopardy of being watered down in December. Fortunately, the policy passed out of committee and had its first board reading February 8. Next: The 21-day public comment period is open through March 1. This is a new kind of leadership for PPS and they really need your letters of encouragement. It’s high time large public entities pass policies that support a viable future; our kids are counting on us.

Please review the draft policy and express your support to members of the Portland Public Board:
Michelle DePass, Chair of PPS Board and member of Board Policy Committee
Julia Brim-Edwards, PPS Board member and Chair of the Board Policy Committee
Herman Greene, PPS Board member and member of Board Policy Committee
Eilidh Lowery, PPS Board member and member of Board Policy Committee
Andrew Scott, PPS Board Vice-Chair
Gary Hollands, PPS Board Member
Amy Kohnstamm, PPS Board Member
Jackson Weinberg, PPS Board Member & Student Representative
